May President's Message
May 23, 2017

As we approach Memorial Day weekend, many of our departments are hosting events, tournaments or getting ready for a very busy summer. Your hard work and dedication to your communities does not go unnoticed. At MRPA, we are also getting ready for a spectacular conference this fall.  Did you know that MRPA is celebrating 50 years as an association? That could not have happened without the hard work of professionals, students, retirees and citizens that have a love for recreation in our state.  The association is more financially sound than it has ever been and we are providing great opportunities for training, education, fellowship and relationship building for our profession.  I urge you to stay connected and attend this year’s conference in Tupelo, MS.

Although, it is one of the busiest times of the year for all of us it is also the time of year to start thinking about submitting for the 2017 Musco awards of excellence.  You have worked diligently to bring people to your community and provide for your community’s needs…take some time to reflect on your hard work and decide which of your many programs or facility upgrades you are going to submit an award application for.

Also, as we approach Memorial Day weekend, I hope will take the opportunity to reflect on the freedom’s that were bought with the ultimate price made by our military members who died.  Your board of directors will meet again in the coming months so please let your district rep’s know if you have a need that we can provide.  Get out, enjoy your summer and I hope to see each of you this fall.

Sincerely,
Darcie Crew, President 2016-2017
